CARLYLE LAKE — The search for a missing boater on Carlyle Lake ended Wednesday with the discovery of the man’s body.
Authorities had been looking for a 55-year-old man who did not return home from a fishing trip at Carlyle Lake. Clinton County Sheriff Doug Maue says that around 5 p.m. Wednesday, searchers discovered the man’s body about 150 yards from his home in four-feet of water.
The sheriff said the man had left his home around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to check on his trout lines in Carlyle Lake and never returned home. His wife had set the dinner table in preparation for eating his catch and had fallen asleep for a while. When she awoke, she found that her husband had not returned from fishing.
She reported her husband missing to the Clinton County Sheriff Office just after 11:55 p.m. Tuesday.
The sheriff says foul play is not suspected, but will make a further determination after the coroners report.
The man’s name has not been released.
