CLAY COUNTY — A weekend incident involving a side-by-side has claimed the life of a 12-year-old Clay County boy who was ejected from the vehicle.

According to the Illinois State Police, the traffic incident happened around 10 p.m. Friday and resulted in 12-year-old Caide Weidner being ejected from the vehicle and sustaining a severe head injury.

Caide was a student at North Clay Grade School. He was transported by ambulance from the scene of the accident near Clay City to the Clay County Hospital. He was later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital, where he passed away from his injuries Sunday afternoon.
