MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Police are confirming an 18-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been arrested in connection with a Tuesday afternoon shooting that sent one man to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police reports say around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to Crossroads Hospital on a report of a shooting victim. Officers responded to the crime scene of the shooting in an alley in the 2000 block of Logan Street.

With the assistance of witnesses and surveillance video, two offenders were quickly identified. At 3:18 p.m., a patrol officer observed one of the offenders, 18-year-old Gabriel Ellinger, of Mt. Vernon, at 17th and Broadway, and took him into custody without incident.

One male juvenile offender is still being sought in the investigation. Ellinger was charged with Aggravated Battery with a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

MVPD was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. This is an ongoing investigation by the MVPD. Anyone with information related to the shooting can call 618-242-2131.
