Audrey Jean Tucker, 95, of Mt. Vernon, IL passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.

Audrey was born February 1, 1929 to Henry and Kathryn Kennedy of Dahlgren, IL.  She married James Allyn Tucker on February 25, 1947. He loving referred to her as his bride for 66 years before he preceded her in death in 2013.

Audrey retired from Walmart where she worked as the Head of the Paint Department.  Previously, she had been a business owner of a fabric store, Busy Bobbin’, in Mt. Vernon, and prior to that she managed Marvel Fabric in Mt. Vernon.  In her younger years, she helped her husband, James, at his insurance company in Dahlgren, IL.  She was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.  Audrey loved the outdoors, and hosting family gatherings.  The importance of family was passed down by Audrey to all her loved ones.

She is survived by 4 daughters: Pat Warnberg of Mt. Vernon, IL; Linda May of Pflugerville, TX; Marilyn (Bernie) Kroll of Lafayette, IN; and Carolyn (David) Trotter of Belle Rive, IL.  She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.  Two sisters: Delores Berlinski of New Athens, IL and Betty Kennedy of McLeansboro, IL; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Proceeding Audrey in death were her parents and her husband.

Funeral services for Audrey Jean Tucker will be held Monday, July 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with Pastor Steve Lyles officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024 until the time of service.  Interment will immediately follow at IOOF Cemetery in Dahlgren, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dahlgren IOOF Cemetery Fund or Shriners Hospitals for Children, and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
