FAYETTE COUNTY — A 38-year-old Vandalia man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly fired a gun inside a residence over the weekend and at a passing vehicle.
Vandalia Police arrested Travis E. Stewart after they responded to a call early Sunday morning that identified him as being armed with a 12 gauge shotgun and firing at a man and his vehicle.
When officers investigated the report, they allegedly found a large hole in a cabinet door inside the residence from where the shots were allegedly fired.
Upon examining the complainant’s car officers reportedly observed shotgun pellets had penetrated the front passenger fender, the hood and the windshield of the vehicle.
Stewart was arrested on four pending counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm. He remains in the Fayette County Jail.
