EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A Missouri man has been indicted on federal charges that he robbed a southwestern Illinois bank last month.
Grand jurors in East St. Louis, Illinois, returned the indictment Tuesday against 38-year-old Jonathon Ford of Fenton, south of St. Louis.
The indictment on one bank robbery count alleges Ford stole roughly $3,900 during a March 19 holdup of a Regions Bank branch in Smithton. The FBI says Ford was arrested a short time later driving his car matching a description of the vehicle witnesses reported seeing fleeing the robbery.
The indictment replaces a criminal complaint filed March 20 against Ford.
Ford’s public defender, Phillip Kavanaugh III, declined to comment Wednesday, saying his office had just received the case.
The charge is punishable by a possible 20-year prison term and $250,000 fine.
