MARION COUNTY — A 27-year-old Salem man has been formally charged in Marion County court with Class X felony home invasion, and two separate counts of domestic battery after he was arrested for an alleged incident Saturday at his ex-grilfriend’s home.
Ryan McCarty was arrested after allegedly entering his ex-girfriend Reanna McVay’s home, and after an argument between the two, he allegedly threw McVay down on the couch and began choking her.
McCarty was arrested a short time after McVay made a report at the Salem Police Department Saturday morning.
He was charged Monday with Class X felony home invasion causing injury, Class 2 felony aggravated domestic battery including strangling, and Class 3 felony aggravated battery of a pregnant or handicapped person. McCarty’s bail was set at $100,000 and a preliminary hearing in the case was set for May 5. He remains in custody.
McCarty was sentenced in 2013 to two-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on a 2012 conviction for felony aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. A felony charge of home invasion causing injury was dismissed per a plea agreement.
