POPE COUNTY — According to Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits, the Pope County Coroner has identified a body found Friday in One Horse Gap Lake as that of a 19-year-old Harrisburg man missing since late December.

Family and search teams had been covering ground throughout southeast Illinois since Kyle Brown’s December disappearance.

On Friday, sonar crews operating on the lake in the Shawnee National Forest discovered a body and two cars, one believed to have been in the lake for years, and the other believed to have been the SUV Brown was last seen driving.

Illinois State Police were present at the autopsy on Sunday afternoon, and Brown was identified by his dental records.

The results of the autopsy are pending, as well as the toxicology report, but there are currently no suspicions of foul play in Brown’s death.
