SALEM — According to a local veterinarian, there is a nasty flu going around Salem and the surrounding area right now. Please be aware of the symptoms and seek veterinary attention if your pet is showing any of the following signs:

• Fever (normal temperature is 101)
• Lethargy
• Anorexia
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea

Deuel Veterinary Services says they have seen loads of cases so far. The flu does not appear to be deadly if the pet is attended to by a veterinarian until symptoms cease.

They say they are not advocating the flu shot for pets as it is not the same strain that the vaccine covers. They are recommending that pets not be walked or socialized with other pets until this flu goes away.
