FAYETTE COUNTY –A 30-year-old Missouri man has been arrested on Interstate 70 near Vandalia, after he allegedly abducted his daughter in Ohio.

According to Illinois State Police, Matthew Scott Montgomery of O’Fallon, Mo., was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Fayette County Jail. His 7-year-old daughter from whom he has been estranged was recovered unharmed.
Montgomery was arrested after a District 12 trooper observed the vehicle which matched the description of the one noted in an Ohio State Highway Patrol Amber Alert early Wednesday morning. The Amber Alert noted Montgomery might travel Interstate 70 back to his home in Missouri.
Authorities say Montgomery had never met his daughter, and his motive is unknown at this time. An Amber Alert was issued overnight for 7-year-old Mariska Montgomery.
