MADISON COUNTY — A New Mexico couple faces more than a century in prison after state police seized 23 pounds heroin and 10 pounds cocaine during a traffic stop Friday on Interstate 70 in Madison County. The drugs have an estimated street value of $1 million.
Charges were filed Monday against 28-year-old Jorge Miramontes, 27-year-old and Erica Miramontes. Both are charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, a Class X enhanced felony punishable by 30 to 120 years in prison; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, a Class X felony punishable by 15 to 60 years in prison.
Both defendants remained in custody Tuesday at the Madison County Jail on $500,000 bail.
