ALTON, Ill. (AP) — City leaders in Alton want to build a municipal recreational vehicle park near an outdoor concert venue on the banks of the Mississippi River.
The (Alton) Telegraph reports that the proposed park near the Liberty Bank Amphitheater would accommodate 20 RVs.
Mayor Brant Walker says the “upscale” RV park could help ease crowding at Pere Marquette State Park in nearby Grafton and boost tourism at local attractions such as the Argosy Casino Alton.
The city’s planning commission would first need to revise local zoning rules to allow a riverfront RV park with a special use permit. The Alton City Council would also have to approve the change.
