CENTRALIA — A head-on collision around 10:30 Friday night on Noleman Street in Centralia resulted in two people being airlifted from SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.
According to Illinois State Police, a 2007 gray Ford Taurus driven the wrong way on Noleman Street by 38-year-old Seth Lambert, of Vernon was traveling at a high-rate of speed when it struck a white 2003 Nissan head-on in front of the RollinUp Smoke Shop & Liquor at Noleman and Elm streets. The Nissan, being driven by 19-year-old Raigen Schwartz, of Walnut Hill, was stopped at a red light at the intersection.
Both vehicles proceeded west on East Noleman Street, with the Schwartz vehicle coming to rest on the right curb and the Lambert vehicle continuing until it struck a power pole.
Reports say Lambert was airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and Schwartz was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital. Matthew Baumgartner, a 22-year-old passenger in Schwartz’ vehicle was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. Their conditions were not available.
Illinois State Police was called to the scene and the crash is under investigation. Charges are pending with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
