WAYNE COUNTY — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is reporting area residents have been receiving phone calls telling them they’ve won vacations and/or money and that in order to process their winnings they need either a credit card number or money order sent to them.
The sheriff’s office warns that these are scams and no information should be given to these callers.
The scammers, they say, are routing their numbers through local area prefixes in order to attempt to make it seem legitimate, but again they are only scams.
If you receive any calls similar to this you’re advised to tell the caller that you are going to report the call to your local law enforcement agency and this usually gets the calls to stops.
You’re asked to please share this information with others and especially the elderly who may not be able to see this message and are often the target for these people.
