Darius D. Holliday was arrested in Cook County on an outstanding Marion County warrant charging him with two Class X felonies for aggravated battery. The warrant was issued last Wednesday, with bail set at $300,000.

Holliday, who was released from the Illinois Department of Corrections in February after completing a 2-year sentence for felony mob action, remains held in Cook County waiting to be transported to Marion County.

Holliday is accused of shooting 19-year-old Devale Johnson, of Georgia and 52-year-old Juan Hayes, of Chicago. Centralia Police Chief Doug Krutsinger says they believe Johnson was the target of the shooting, and Hayes was a bystander who was hit as he ran from the gunfire.

Both men were reportedly shot in the legs and were ultimately airlifted to St. Louis area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, surveillance video from the Marion County Housing Authority helped identify Holliday as the suspected shooter, along with Facebook posts and witness statements led law enforcement to believe he was a possible suspect.

Johnson reportedly claimed to have no prior knowledge of Holliday, who he said shot him after he questioned him about following a girl riding her bike. Holliday was then identified in a police line-up.

Holliday, who has served time in prison for firearms offenses out of Vermillion County, was already known to Centralia police, who say he divides his time between Centralia, Chicago and Danville, where he is reportedly a member of the “Rude Boys” gang.
