According to the fire department, the call came in around 5:50 p.m.,, with the fire being located in a storage garage on the east side of the building that faces the alley behind the business.

The owner, Jeff Bonner, had two riding mowers and some other items stored in the building and they were completely burned in the fire, that reportedly started in the attic.

Ameren was called to the scene to completely disconnect power, as sparks were reported coming from the wires leading to the weather head of the building’s electrical service entrance.

ESDA also responded to the scene to divert traffic as firefighters fought the blaze. There were no injuries, but Lifestar stood by because of the heat. People who were in the building safely got out after passersby alerted them to the fire just before Centralia police arrived.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire and damage isolated to the storage building and the business did not experience much loss, so should be able to reopen.

Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 7:15 p.m.
