ST. LOUIS (AP) — A 26-year-old man wanted by the FBI for a St. Louis-area kidnapping conspiracy has been captured at a home in Illinois.

The FBI said Wednesday that Ortega Mitchell was arrested without incident Tuesday at a home in Swansea, Illinois.

FBI Special Agent in Charge William Woods says tip led to the arrest. The agency will pay a $5,000 reward to the tipster.

Mitchell had been on the run since September. He was among three defendants indicted for allegedly conspiring to hold a California man for ransom. The indictment says Mitchell bought airline tickets and convinced the victim to travel to St. Louis from San Diego as part of a drug deal.

The victim was allegedly held for ransom over several days, threatened and robbed.
