MOUNT VERNON — Few details have been released at this time regarding a crash Sunday in Mt. Vernon between a semi-truck and a motorcycle that claimed the life of the motorcyclist.
A preliminary investigation says that around 8 p.m. Sunday, the 73-year-old driver of the semi pulled off the interstate at Exit 94, decided to re-enter the highway, and didn’t stop at the stop sign.
He pulled into the path of a motorcycle driven by 44-year-old Donald Christopher Hopkins, who was westbound motorcycle on Veteran’s Memorial Drive at Exit 94 of Interstate 57.
Hopkins collided with the back of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, who is from Ohio, was cited for failure to yield. The accident remains under investigation.
An accident reconstructionist was called in and a further report will be issued at a later date. Funeral arrangements for Christopher Hopkins are pending with Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia.
