WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 24-year-old Centralia woman was hospitalized early Monday morning after two vehicle crashes in Washington County for which she’s facing charges.
Nicole Sprehe reportedly was driving a 1994 Chevy 1500 around 6:15 a.m. Monday when she struck the side of 2012 Chevy 3500.near County Highway 22 and Route 127.
The Illinois State Police say Sprehe then fled south on Route 127, ultimately hitting a 2011 Freightliner semi that was crossing Route 127 to the Interstate 64 entrance ramp.
The impact of the collision reportedly caused the semi to jackknife and come to rest on the grass embankment.
According to ISP, the driver of the semi told them there were no visible headlights as he crossed Route 127. ISP believe Sprehe’s headlights could have been damaged in the first crash.
Southbound Route 127 and the I-64 westbound entrance ramp were both closed for more than an hour during the investigation and clean up.
Sprehe was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported. She has been cited for failure to wear a seatbelt, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and failure to reduce speed.
