MADISON COUNTY — A 37-year-old Clinton County woman has been charged in connection with the hit-and-run incident Tuesday that sent a Pochohantas man to the hospital with serious injuries.
Christy G. Cummins was arrested shortly after the collision, which occurred about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near the Clinton County/Madison County line. Cummins was charged Thursday in Madison County Court with aggravated driving under the influence and failure to report an accident with an injury in connection with the crash that pushed 31-year-old Joshua Doerr and his motorcycle about 50-yards from the impact site.
Doerr was ultimately air lifted to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He is reportedly in a coma, with a broken back, two collapsed lungs and has lost his right kidney.
According to reports, Cummins was driving a Jeep Cherokee when she struck Doerr at the intersection of Baumann Road and Keyesport Road near the Clinton County line.
Deputies tracked her down because one of her license plates was knocked off her SUV in the collision and was found at the scene. Cummins, who it is believed is from Carlyle, was arrested shortly after the collision at a friend’s house in Aviston.
She was initially taken to the Clinton County Jail, but was later transported to the Madison County Jail, where her bail has been set at $70,000.
Based upon on the severity of the impact and Doerr’s injuries, authorities say the Grand Cherokee apparently was going at “very high rate of speed.”
