MARION COUNTY — A 26-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Thursday in Marion County Court to 7-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, after his probation was revoked on multiple burglary charges and a charge of possessing a stolen vehicle.

Jeffery Gallatin was originally convicted in 2014 of three counts Class 2 felony burglary, and in a separate case of Class 2 felony possession of a stolen vehicle. A fourth count of Class 2 burglary in the second case was dismissed.

An apparent crime spree led to Gallatin’s arrest over the 2014 summer. He admitted to taking a golf cart from a shed in rural Kinmundy and leaving the golf cart at the scene of car burglaries on Conservation Road in rural Patoka.

Gallatin also admitted to taking a Jeep from the southeast side of Centralia, ultimately wrecking that vehicle off Interstate 57 near the Martin Road overpass in rural Alma.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified when the person who gave Gallatin a ride from the Interstate became suspicious. He allegedly had the golf cart key in his possession when taken into custody.

Gallatin had initially been sentenced to 5-years TASC probation in both cases, but that was revoked last year and he was resentenced to Drug Court. He reportedly violated the terms of that probation on numerous occasions and probation was again revoked, resulting this time in the 7-year prison sentence that will end with 2-years parole.
