JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Jefferson County jury has found a 25-year-old Mt. Vernon man not guilty of the shooting death last summer of his friend.
Dewayne Moore had been charged with two counts first-degree murder for the August 30, 2015, shooting of Cortez Pickett at Pickett’s Mt. Vernon home.
The jury deliberated for just over two hours Wednesday, having received the case just before noon.
Despite being found not guilty of Pickett’s murder, Moore will remain held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond, on a felony charge of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance. He’s scheduled for a November 29 pre-trial hearing in that case.
