JACKSON COUNTY — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a Friday night accident involving a vehicle that struck two pedestrians around 7:20 on Airport Road near Bodkin Road in rural Murphysboro.

According to the sheriff’s report, the vehicle was going west on Airport Road and struck two pedestrians walking on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle failed to stop at the scene and continued west on Airport Road.

One pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and was later flown to a St. Louis hospital for life threatening injuries. There was no word regarding the other pedestrian in the report.

The vehicle involved was a 1997 to 2003 model Ford F150 or Expedition. It is missing a passenger side mirror and will have damage to the passenger side headlight and front turn signal.
