JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two men are in the Jefferson County Jail, after an early morning traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy resulted in their arrests on multiple drug charges.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, just before 1 a.m. Tuesday deputies stopped a vehicle being driven by 25-year-old Bratten Burge, of Wayne City, on North Auburn Lane.
During the stop deputies discovered what appeared to be drug equipment in the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed suspected cocaine, suspected synthetic drugs, scales, and hypodermic syringes.
Burge and his 54-year-old passenger, Robert Cates, of Mt. Vernon, were both taken into custody for alleged possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of drug equipment, and possession of hypodermic syringes.
Cates and Burge are being held at the Jefferson County Jail awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
