John Wells was taken into custody around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at a private residence in Bridgeton, Missouri.
Wells is being held in the St. Louis City Justice Center awaiting extradition back to Jefferson County. His bail has been set at $3 million.
Police were searching for Wells, first as a person of interest in the January 20, shooting death of 26-year-old DeAndray Jackson, of California, but after further investigation, he was sought as a first-degree murder suspect.
The shooting took place during an alleged attempted robbery. Prosecutors have already charged 18-year-old Lekedrieon Russell with first-degree murder for Jackson’s death. He was arrested earlier this month in Springfield, Illinois and was eventually transported to the Jefferson County jail where he remains with bail set at $3 million.
Also arrested in connection with the case is 21-year-old Dantrez Brown, and a 17-year-old male juvenile. They both face charges of obstruction in connection with Jackson’s death.
The investigation into Jackson’s death is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is encouraged to contact Capt. Jeff Bullard at the Mt. Vernon Police Department 242-2131 or Jefferson County Crimestoppers 242-6877.
