SULLIVAN, Ill. — A 36-year-old Mattoon woman has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with a crash Friday night involving a school bus carrying the Teutopolis basketball team and cheerleaders.
Scarlett McKenzie was also ticketed for failure to yield. She was taken to the hospital along with five students on the bus. All were released after treatment.
The crash occurred Friday night on Illinois Route 32 just south of Sullivan when McKenzie failed to stop the van she was driving at a stop sign and hit the bus, causing it to go out of control and eventually to flip over on its side across the highway.
Teutopolis canceled its Friday night basketball game with Rock Ridge that was scheduled at Lincoln College in Lincoln after the wreck; however, they did play in the Wooden Shoe Shootout Saturday Night defeating Marshall 73-35.
