CLINTON COUNTY — New charges have been filed in Clinton County court against a 27-year-old Trenton man after prosecutors agreed to not pursue similar charges in January.

Thomas Fleming Jr. was formally charged Monday with three Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse while at least 5-years or older than the alleged victim.

In January charges against Fleming in a previous sex abuse case were dismissed just minutes before a Clinton County jury was selected in the case.

Fleming was first arrested in August 2016 on three counts Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 18.

A motion was filed to “nolle prosse,” or not pursue the charges, was reportedly approved by the mother of the alleged victim and by agreement of all parties.

Fleming had been in the Clinton County Jail since his August 2016 arrest, with bail set at $50,000. He was ultimately released from custody in January but has now been notified to appear in court April 17 on the new charges.
