JACKSON COUNTY — A St. Louis, Missouri man charged in connection to the shooting death of a former Centralia man who was a musician in Carbondale pleaded guilty Monday in Jackson County court to reckless discharge of a firearm.
Dwayne Dunn entered an open plea of guilty on the one-year anniversary of Tim Beaty’s death. Beaty was killed March 27, 2016, in the early morning hours of Easter when a stray bullet entered his Carbondale home.
According to prosecutors, the bullet was fired during a party next door to Beaty’s home. Dunn pleaded guilty Monday to firing a handgun into the air of a populated neighborhood, which endangered the safety of numerous individuals in the vicinity.
Because he filed an open plea, Dunn was not guaranteed a specific sentence for the Class 4 felony and could be sentenced up to 3-years in prison or up to 30 months probation.
Two other men, Travis Tyler and John Ingram still face charges for Beaty’s death.
Dunn’s sentencing hearing is May 24 at 10:30 a.m.
