FAYETTE COUNTY — The Fayette County court this afternoon elected to revoke bond in its entirety for a 36-year-old Vandalia man who failed to appear last week for a jury trial in which he faced 10 felony child pornography charges.
Ryan Koontz is being held in the Fayette County Jail following his arrest Friday by sheriff’s deputies. His bail was set at that time at $2 million, but he is no longer eligible to be freed on bond.
The court was prepared to try Koontz in absentia last Tuesday, but his defense attorney also failed to appear and the judge dismissed the jurors as they had not yet been sworn in.
Koontz had been free on $30,000 cash bond since his 2014 arrest on two Class X felony charges and eight Class 2 felony charges of possessing child pornography.
He is now scheduled to appear May 11 for a pre-trial hearing.
