MOUNT VERNON — A 60-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail following his arrest early Thursday morning by the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Narcotics Division.

Eddie G. Bennett was taken into custody after the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriffs Office High Risk Team was activated to serve a knock and announce narcotics search warrant at 2109 Conger Avenue.
The warrant was issued as a result of investigations by the Narcotics Division into the sale of heroin. Bennett was located inside the home once entry was made, as was multiple quantities of heroin packaged for delivery.
Bennett was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County jail on charges of possession of heroin with the intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. He awaits the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail in court.
