JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 20-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been arrested for alleged burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A call to the Mt. Vernon Police Department led to the apprehension of Daniel Smith.

According to police reports, at approximately 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, a passerby reportedly observed Smith on Salem Road entering and exiting a vehicle at a residence and checking random mailboxes.

Upon investigation, it was determined that items in Smith‘s possession coincided with items missing from a nearby vehicle.

The witness provided a statement to authorities. Smith was taken into custody by the MVPD and transported to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
