JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 50-year-old Walnut Hill man found guilty for felony burglary reportedly attempted to flee authorities after being transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center Thursday.
After a brief foot chase, authorities recaptured Mark Linkon after he attempted to escape the sally port area of the jail.
Linkon was charged in this case with Class 2 Felony burglary for an incident that happened on April 27th after he entered a structure with the intention of committing a theft. A Jefferson County jury returned a gulity verdict in the case Thursday after deliberating for a little more than 30 minutes.
A status hearing in that case is scheduled for August 29th at 11 a.m. A sentencing hearing on the burglary charge will be set at a later date.
Linkon will now also face additional charges for his escape attempt. In yet a separate case, Linkon has pending felony charges for allegedly forging signatures on a vehicle’s title. Linkon is being held at the Justice Center on a combined bond of $105,000.
A criminal history shows Linkon was arrested last summer in Wabash County after he allegedly stole a pickup truck and took sheriff’s deputies on a multi-county pursuit.
In 2015 he made local headlines when he attempted to take out orders of protection against a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Marion County court records, Linkon initially claimed deputies burned his house down, and then claimed they set his Jeep on fire. But when he appeared in front of Judge Mark Kelly said he was tired of being arrested.
Judge Kelly denied Linkon’s requests as there as he has no family or household connection to the deputy and there is no basis in law for filing an order of protection against a governmental agency.
