CLAY COUNTY — Illinois State Police have identified a 27-year-old Olney man as the second person killed Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 50 in Flora.
According to ISP, Jacob Russell Stewart was the driver of a Nissan utility vehicle early Saturday morning on U.S. 50 near the Clay County Hospital.
Stewart’s vehicle was the second vehicle struck by a semi driven by 65-year-old Walter Pollock, of Sikeston, Mo.
Pollock reportedly was traveling eastbound when he swerved into the westbound lane and first struck a minivan driven by 29-year-old Eric Bosel, of Noble, and then struck Stewart’s Nissan.
The force caused all three vehicles to exit the roadway to the north. Both Bosel and Stewart’s vehicles then burst into flames, killing both men.
Pollock, was transported to the Clay County Hospital. He has been cited for improper lane usage, driving under the influence of drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police and the Clay County Coroner’s Office. It occurred at 5:51 Thursday morning.
