CLAY COUNTY — The Clay County Sheriff’s Department is looking for one male and one female juvenile suspected in residential burglaries in the Flora area in which firearms were taken.

According to reports, at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglary. Upon their arrival it was discovered that forced entry was made into the residence and a firearm had been taken.

The Sheriff’s Office received an additional report of a residential burglary in the same area where another firearm was also taken.

Approximately an hour later, the Flora Police Department received a report of four juveniles acting suspiciously near a residence on Martha Lane in Flora.

Upon arrival the Flora officers observed three male juveniles and one female juvenile in the backyard of the residence. All four suspects fled on foot.

Flora officers were able to apprehend two male juvenile suspects at the scene. One male and one female juvenile suspect are being actively sought by law enforcement and they have been identified.

A 9mm handgun was reportedly located at the scene where the suspects were taken into custody.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the recovered handgun and it was taken into evidence. It’s believed the gun was from the residential burglaries south of Flora.

The two male juvenile suspects were transported by the sheriff’s office to a juvenile detention center for holding and are awaiting the formal filing of several charges including residential burglary and possession of stolen firearms.

The case(s) are being sent to the Clay County States Attorneys’ Office for review and prosecution.
