JACKSON COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash in Jackson County sent two people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Illinois State Police say just after 2:50 p.m., 39-year-old Deputy Delano Scott was driving a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office squad car east on Old Route 13 when he activated his lights and siren on the way to a domestic violence call.

Scott momentarily turned the siren off in order to communicate with Jackson County dispatchers. The emergency lights were still on.

Twenty-three-year-old Jessica N. Taylor was also going east on Old Route 13 in front of Scott when she made a lane change to pass him.

Taylor began a left hand turn at the intersection of Old Route 13 at Youngman Road when the two cars collided at the intersection and left the roadway to the north.

Both drivers sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries. They were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Murphysboro.

ISP says charges are pending. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The cause of the crash has been reported as failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
