CENTRALIA — A Friday night traffic stop by Centralia police led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Georgia man for alleged fraud and resisting or obstructing police.
According to police, while in Georgia in January Devale Johnson made several transactions on the debit card of a Centralia man.
The victim reportedly thought he had lost his wallet so he didn’t file a police report. Approximately a month later, however, he discovered withdrawals had been made on his account and that bad checks had been deposited on his account for more than $5,000.
Based upon the locations of the ATM transactions to Johnson’s home in Georgia, the investigation led police to suspect him.
When Centralia officers made the traffic stop on the vehicle Johnson was riding in as a passenger Friday night, he reportedly fled on foot.
Officers pursued and were able to apprehend him a short distance away, resulting in the additional resisting and obstructing charge.
