According to Reynolds, the callers are using Salem area telephone numbers beginning with the 548 prefix.

The numbers they are using may sometimes show up on an individual’s caller ID as a legitimate number for a Salem business or residence and the caller may be claiming that they’re selling a discount vacation package or something similar.

Reynolds warns this is a phone scam and to not give out any personal or financial information over the phone.

If you have information that could be useful to law enforcement regarding this scam, you’re urged to contact your local police agency.
