WHITE COUNTY — A 28-year-old Grayville woman has been sentenced to 4-years in prison after she pleaded guilty in White County court to helping one of the three men who escaped from a Southern Illinois jail last month.
Carly Schmittler was charged with Class 3 felony aiding escape of a felon from an institution as well as misdemeanor concealing a fugitive. She pleaded guilty Monday to the felony charge and the misdemeanor was dismissed.
Schmittler admitted to helping Justin Bray escape from the White County Jail by coordinating a rendezvous with him following his escape and then providing him a vehicle.
Bray was captured a few days after he and two other inmates, 24-year-old Zachery Shock and 61-year-old James Tipton used a pipe to break a hole in a jail wall on June 16.
Shock and Tipton were captured separately over the weekend. Tipton was initially being held for theft. Shock was initially being held for trial in the 2016 shooting death of James Berkel of Salem.
