WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — DuPage County’s health department says an elderly person has died of West Nile virus — the first human death of the virus in the county in four years.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the person who died became ill in early September. The county’s health department didn’t release any other information about the person, including gender and hometown. The health department did say the person was over the age of 65.

The health department says there have been 14 human cases of the virus in the county in 2018, compared to six last year. The last West Nile-related death in the county was in 2014.

The state’s health department says that in Illinois there have been 79 human cases of West Nile virus this year and four deaths this year.
