GREENE COUNTY — Authorities say they’ve arrested and charged two subjects in connection with the death of a 6-month-old baby boy whose body was found buried in a wooded area of southwestern Illinois Wednesday.

Illinois State Police say the boy and his 22-year-old mother were reported missing Saturday to police in Alton and the mother was found about 30 miles away in Carrollton. The baby’s body was found Wednesday.

On Friday, the Greene County State’s Attorney’s Office charged 22-year-old Jamia H. Ellis, of Alton, with first-degree murder for causing blunt force trauma to the infant J.A.E. resulting in his homicidal death. Ellis is also charged with concealment of the baby’s death by burying him in the woods. Her bail has been set at $500,000.

Officials have also charged 34-year-old Ryan Wheeler, of Carrollton, with concealment of a homicidal death in that he knew the infant’s death was a homicide and buried the child’s body in the woods east of Carrolton. Wheeler’s bail has been set at $750,000.
