CENTRALIA — Armed robberies of two Centralia convenience stores have resulted in the arrests of two juvenile males.

According to Centralia police, 16- and 17-year-old juvenile males from Centralia were arrested in connection with the Thursday night armed robbery of the Casey’s General Store on East McCord and the Sunday afternoon robbery of the Circle K store on East McCord.

The two juveniles were reportedly taken into custody after they were tracked by the Centralia canine from the Circle K to an apartment in the 1400 block of Frazier Street.

Officers were then able to further track the boys based upon information from earlier investigations, including Thursday’s investigation at the Casey’s store.

Both teens were sent to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center pending action in Marion County court.

Police say that in both robberies, at least one of the teens was armed with what police believe was an assault type weapon. They both fled on foot from the robberies after taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the clerk.

Customers were present during Thursday’s robbery of the Casey’s Store, but no injuries were in either incident.

Police believe it’s possible the two may have been involved in the Sunday morning armed robbery of the Huck’s Convenience store in Mt. Vernon, as they matched the description of those involved and the same type of weapon was reportedly used.

After Centralia tracked the juveniles to the apartment building on Frazier, Marion County Sheriff’s deputies, State Police, Central City Police and Wamac Police were called to provide assistance.
