WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 55-year-old Nashville man was killed Tuesday night in a head-on crash on Illinois Route 127 just north of New Minden.

According to the Washington County Coroner’s Office, James Lamar was pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner’s reports say Lamar had just left work when around 11:15 p.m., the pickup truck he was driving southbound crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and struck a northbound semi-truck head-on and ultimately caught fire. Lamar’s truck was consumed by flames before first responders arrived on scene.

The cause of death appears to be massive blunt force trauma.

Agencies on the scene included the Washington County Ambulance Service, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, Hoyleton Fire Department and Washington County Coroner’s office.
