Victor Serrano had been charged with two counts attempted murder: one for a pregnant woman and the other for her unborn child, as well as a felony kidnapping charge.
Jefferson County prosecutors had charged Serrano for attacking a pregnant woman in Mt. Vernon in January 2019 before leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in Indiana. Serrano had previously pleaded guilty to charges in Indiana from that chase and was serving a one-year sentence while awaiting the outcome of his charges in Jefferson County.
In exchange for his guilty plea to the one attempted murder charge, all other charges were dismissed. Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun says Serrano will have to serve 85-percent of his sentence. He was also ordered to pay nearly $14,000 in restitution.
Jefferson County prosecutors had sought Serrano’s records from New Jersey where he allegedly barricaded himself in his home, then set the house on fire following a domestic violence incident, according to local publications at that time.
Serrano allegedly had beaten a female in the house with a wooden club and set fire to furniture on the first floor.
