MARION COUNTY — State’s Attorney Bill Milner has announced that the Centralia teen jailed for the shooting death of 13-year-old Jaden Lee Krauss last year has been released from the Department of Juvenile Justice without his office or the victim’s family being alerted.

Milner says had he known of the plan he would have protested the teen’s release as he did before, as he doesn’t believe it would be possible for him to be rehabilitated in less than a year.

The teen, identified on social media as Jayden Smith, pleaded guilty just days after Jaden Krauss’ shooting death and was ultimately sentenced to no more 5-years in the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice — the maximum sentence allowed.
