CHICAGO — In response to the stay-at-home order issued Friday by Gov. JB Pritzker to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Illinois Supreme Court has issued an order that will essentially suspend speedy trial rights.
The High Court order says the Chief Judges of each circuit may continue trials for the next 60 days and until further order.
In the case of criminal proceedings, any delays due to the ruling will not count against the prosecution or the defendant on the speedy trial clock.
