MARION COUNTY — The Marion County Health Department is seeking volunteer help in response to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases.

A non-profit county agency whose mission is to protect the health of the citizens of Marion County, the agency is asking people with medical and non-medical experience to provide manpower or knowledge in the fight against the coronavirus.

Volunteers will not be asked to assume hazardous responsibilities but help to fully staff the clinics so the public can quickly get the medication they need.

The role of volunteers is vital to ensure an efficient and organized distribution of medication in a time of crisis.

They recommend that all volunteers participate in annual training. After completion, volunteers may choose to participate in further training and take on additional roles in the program.

Volunteers and their families will be given medications and personal protective equipment to protect them from possible harm before they begin volunteer duties.

Currently, there are no plans to activate volunteers but the health department is attempting to strengthen their volunteer roster with those sincerely interested in helping their neighbors and their community.

Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact Marion County Health Department MRC coordinator at 548-3878 or visit their website at marioncountyhealthdept.org for additional information.
