Illinois reported more than 900 newly confirmed cases of the coronavirus, the highest one-day total since early June.
Meanwhile, Gov. J.B. Pritzker says the state is rolling out 12 mobile testing teams, which will be prepared to visit meat factories, nursing homes and homeless shelters.
The public health department reported 980 new virus cases and 36 deaths. Illinois deaths now total 7,099. From July 1 to Tuesday, the rate of positive tests was 2.6%.
The state’s public health chief said there has been an increase in infections among young people who have attended social gatherings.
Locally, Jefferson County health officials on Thursday reported three new positive cases, bringing their total of positive test results to 117.
The three new cases are in a man in his 20s, a man in his 50s who is the spouse of an active case, and a man who is over 100 and lives in a long-term care facility.
Health officials say all residents and staff of the facility are being tested for the virus.
Currently, eight Jefferson County residents are in isolation, and another 95 have been released. Fourteen residents diagnosed with the virus have died.
In Marion County, there are now 72 confirmed positive cases and 65 of the positive cases are considered recovered and have been released from isolation.
Clinton County health officials are reporting a total of 246 COVID-19 positive individuals in the county, with 222 having been released from isolation. Seven people remain in quarantine, and 17 have died.
There are now four active cases of COVID-19 in Washington County, with 20 individuals having been released from isolation.
