FAYETTE COUNTY — Bail has been set at $250,000 for a 19-year-old Vandalia man has charged with armed violence and aggravated battery stemming from a stabbing incident over the weekend in Vandalia.

Van W. Klaus was formally charged Monday in Fayette County Court where probable cause was found to detain him for allegedly stabbing 26-year-old Bo Belcher multiple times Sunday night.
Vandalia police responding to a report of a stabbing found Belcher lying in the street in the 400 block of Gallatin Street. He was initially taken to the Fayette County Hospital for treatment but was ultimately transferred to another medical facility.
Klaus was charged Monday with one Class X felony count of armed violence, two Class 3 felony counts of aggravated battery, and one misdemeanor count of unlawful use of weapons.
He’s next scheduled to appear in court September 15 for a preliminary hearing and first appearance with his court-appointed attorney.
