According to Police Chief Sean Reynolds, Rayvon T. Garner was arrested Wednesday on a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16.
Reynolds says his department received a call Wednesday afternoon about the alleged incident and officers then responded to Garner’s residence in the 1300 block of South Rotan.
Garner reportedly agreed to go the Salem Police Department for an interview, after which he was arrested on the sexual assault charge and taken to the Marion County Jail.
The Amy Center reportedly conducted an interview of the child on Thursday and that report will also be submitted to the Marion County State’s Attorney.
Garner was convicted in 1990 in Marion County of Class 2 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child between the ages of 13 and 16. He was sentenced in that case to 5-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Sentencing guidelines at the time, however, did not require a life-time registration so he is no longer listed on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry despite violating the registry multiple times.
