BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A former southwestern Illinois police officer has been indicted on a drunken driving charge stemming from a highway crash that killed a man.
A grand jury in St. Clair County charged 32-year-old Ashley L. Roever of Bethalto on Monday with aggravated DUI/accidental death in the November 2020 crash that killed 31-year-old Toshorn D. Napper of Cahokia.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports Roever was an Alton police officer and was off duty when she drove a truck into the rear of Napper’s vehicle as he waited at a railroad crossing on Illinois 3. Roever’s indictment alleges that she had a blood-alcohol concentration of “.08% or more.”
